is going to roll out later today. The latest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system will hit iOS devices including iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch.
The new update is going to be made live after 10am PT which converts to 10:30PM Indian time. iOS 11 has a lot of changes under the hood. It is built to make iOS work faster than ever and it also some visual facelifts.
iOS 11 is also made to boost productivity
with new features in the iPad Pro lineup. While the upcoming iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X will come preloaded with iOS 11, the new version will be pushed to iPhones starting from the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5 and older will unfortunately not be supported.
For iPad, iOS 11 will roll to the first and second generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and even the iPad Air 2, iPad Air 1, iPad 5th generation, iPad Mini 4, iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Mini 2.
iPads older than them including the iPad Mini first generation and the iPad 4th Generation will not get new updates anymore.
Even the iPod Touch 6th Generation will receive the update.
In the latest update, the most visible changes are of course the interface changes. The control center has been upgraded, you can drag and drop content between apps, there’s a new File Manager app, a new “do not disturb while driving” option and more.
Siri is also now more powerful than ever with more focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Apple has also streamlined the setup process. If you have have another iOS device running iOS 11 signed in to your Apple ID, you can place the new device next to it to sync your settings and passwords.
New file formats for photos and videos are also a part of iOS 11 that promises to take up 50 per cent less storage for the same media files stores on iOS 10.
Apple also finally did away with 32-bit apps on iOS 11 and there are a lot of performance upgrades underneath that helps boost the battery life and improve responsiveness.
amidst everything new
, Apple will not ship one new feature that it introduced earlier this year in iOS 11. Apple Pay Cash, the peer-to-peer payment feature will not be present in the new update. It will arrive sometime later this year.
